What is an Adventure & Nature Retreat?⌄
Adventure & Nature Retreats combine the grounding practices of yoga and meditation with the energizing experiences of Costa Rica's natural environment — surfing, SUP, wildlife tours, beach time, and jungle exploration. These retreats are for guests who want wellness plus movement, joy, and the Pura Vida lifestyle.
Do I need surf experience for the Pura Vida Yoga & Surf retreat?⌄
No. Our surf lessons are beginner-friendly. Instructors adapt to your level, whether you have never touched a surfboard or want to improve your technique. Safety, fun, and gradual progression are the priorities — not performance.
What does a typical day look like on an Adventure & Nature Retreat?⌄
Mornings begin with beach yoga or shala practice. After brunch, you head out for your adventure activity — surf lesson, SUP tour, nature hike, or wildlife outing. Afternoons include restorative yoga, recovery time, or optional massage. Evenings feature sunset meditation, beach bonfires, or group sharing.
What is included in the retreat price?⌄
The price includes accommodation, daily plant-based meals, daily yoga and meditation, your core adventure activities (surf lessons, nature tours, or SUP), and equipment. Optional add-ons such as extra surf lessons, massage, or airport transfer can be requested.
What if I don't want to surf — are there other activities?⌄
Absolutely. Choose the Nature, Beach & Yoga Escape experience if you prefer gentle nature immersion without surf intensity. Even within the surf retreat, you can opt out of any activity and enjoy the beach, pool, or jungle walks instead.
What should I pack for a surf and yoga retreat?⌄
Pack yoga clothing, rash guard or surf shirt, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, quick-dry towel, and light layers. We provide surfboards and yoga mats. A full packing list is sent after booking confirmation.
Is Costa Rica safe for solo travelers?⌄
Yes. Guanacaste is one of Costa Rica's safest regions for tourists. Our retreat center is in a secure, private location. Many solo travelers attend our retreats and find the combination of structured activities and natural beauty ideal for independent exploration.
What is the best time of year for surf?⌄
The dry season (December-April) offers consistent offshore winds and clean waves, ideal for beginners. The green season (May-November) has warmer water and occasional afternoon rain, with fun, less crowded sessions. Both seasons are enjoyable — just different.
What kind of food is served?⌄
We serve two nourishing, plant-based meals daily designed to fuel active days without weighing you down. Expect fresh tropical fruits, energizing grains, healing spices, and hydrating dishes. Meals are communal and celebrate Costa Rica's incredible produce.
Can beginners really learn to surf in 4 days?⌄
Yes. Most beginners stand up on their first or second lesson. By day 4, you typically have the basics of paddling, popping up, and reading small waves. Our instructors use safe, gradual teaching methods that build confidence quickly.
What wildlife might I see?⌄
Depending on the season and activities, you may see howler monkeys, iguanas, tropical birds, sea turtles (nesting season), dolphins, and diverse marine life. Our nature tours visit nearby estuaries and beaches known for wildlife viewing.
How do I get to the retreat from Liberia Airport?⌄
We are approximately 90 minutes from Liberia International Airport (LIR). We can arrange a private transfer, or you can rent a car. Tamarindo, the nearest town, is about 15 minutes away and offers additional restaurants, shops, and nightlife.
Can couples or groups of friends attend?⌄
Yes. Adventure & Nature Retreats are excellent for couples, friends, and small groups. Shared experiences like surfing, SUP, and nature tours create natural bonding moments. Private room options are available.
What happens if the surf conditions are poor?⌄
We monitor conditions daily and adapt the schedule accordingly. If surf is flat, we substitute with SUP yoga, beach workouts, extra nature tours, or restorative practices. The retreat is designed to flow with nature, not fight it.
What makes the Yoga Ashram location special for nature lovers?⌄
We are nestled in the Guanacaste dry forest, minutes from world-class beaches, estuaries, and wildlife corridors. Unlike beachfront hotels, our jungle setting offers immersive nature, quieter nights, and a sense of being held by the land. You surf world-class waves by day and sleep beneath the jungle canopy by night.
